USVI set to receive $41.5 million tax reimbursement

ST THOMAS, USVI: With President Bush’s announcement that tax rebates in the form of direct deposits were set to begin Monday, Delegate to Congress Donna Christensen announced that she is very pleased with Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson’s notification that the US Virgin Islands will receive $41.5 million.

USVI police call on villa owners to take greater security measures

ST JOHN, USVI: Police on St John in the US Virgin Islands are investigating three separate reports of unauthorised persons entering into private, rental villas and removing personal items and cash. The first incident, classified as a Robbery 1st Degree, occurred on Sunday, April 20 about 8 p.m.

USVI governor postpones Denmark trip

ST THOMAS, USVI: US Virgin Islands governor John deJongh’s upcoming trip to Denmark, which was scheduled for May 6-10, has been postponed. At the request of the Danish government, deJongh will reschedule the planned trip to a date later this year, which will be announced in the near future.

Coast guard suspends search for missing USVI fisherman

ST THOMAS, USVI: The San Juan, Puerto Rico, US Coast Guard Sector issued a press release early Monday morning, indicating that rescue crews had suspended their search Sunday afternoon for a fisherman who went missing Tuesday while traveling from St John, US Virgin Islands to Vieques, Puerto Rico.

USVI college student's opinion piece selected for national distribution

ST THOMAS, USVI: In recognition of Domestic Violence Month, US Virgin Islands Governor John deJongh, along with other officials, recently held a first-ever meeting with the Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Council,( DVSAC).  The meeting was held to address issues of pressing concern in the Territory.

Cruise ship tourist robbed and beaten in the USVI

ST THOMAS, USVI: Police on St Thomas in the US Virgin Islands are continuing to investigate a First Degree Robbery that occurred shortly before noon on a Wednesday. The victim, a 39-year-old New Jersey resident, was pistol whipped and robbed at gun point near the Havensight cruise ship dock area.

USVI governor takes action on 16 legislative bills

ST THOMAS, USVI: Governor John deJongh took action Saturday on sixteen bills passed by the 27th Legislature in its March session. The measures were due back to the US Virgin Islands Senate on April 12, 2008. Money to facilitate the current Constitutional Convention process was vetoed.
